Freshmen Series

The first three months are especially important for freshmen to learn the ropes and orient to SUSS culture. As part of our continuing efforts to support freshmen during their onboarding period, we have designed the 'Freshmen Series' that will be running from Thursday, 1 August onwards.

The series consists of a variety of events, workshops and seminars that will provide freshmen with opportunities to network with peers and acquire essential skills to thrive as a SUSS student.

Freshmen Series is now open! Browse below for the list of workshops, seminars, and events. Do take note of their respective registration closing date and register early! To register, please click on the respective registration links below.

Effective Reading Skills for University by School of Science & Technology

Speaker: Associate Professor Low Wai Ping

Open to: Freshmen Only

The transition to university requires students to be effective in managing time, making effective notes and reading. Reading is a central approach in learning. It is important to read independently and effectively to learn significant portions of a course of study. Unfortunately, many students read passively, failing to build comprehension or goal for reading.

Active reading is a central approach to learning and it requires a set of skills and discipline. This workshop will introduce students to active reading strategies to make reading more productive and meaningful.
